The best way to keep your towels fresher and last as long as possible is to follow a separate washing procedure for your towels. Below are our professional recommendations:

Towel Cleaning Tips:

  • Separate your towels from your other everyday laundry. Your clothes get dirtier than your towels. Clean them separately so your towels don’t get exposed to all the muck from your clothes.
  • Separate your dark towels from your light towels. Towels are prone to picking up fugitive dyes from other garments, so ensure none of the dyes will transfer to each other.
  • Use half the detergent when cleaning your towels. Too much detergent in your wash cycles could result in a detergent build-up on your towels, making them less absorbent and stiff.
  • Use half the fabric softener. Again, like detergent, use half the fabric softener in your washes. Fabric softener will build up on your towels and coat the fibers, thereby reducing the absorbency of your towels.
  • Run your towels on a regular or normal cycle. Most towels are made of 100% cotton or are a cotton blend, so a regular cycle should be sufficient. Use a longer cycle only when needed.
  • Add bleach when washing stained towels. You can add chlorine bleach to clean white towels. When cleaning colored towels, use a non-chlorine color-safe bleach.
  • Treat towels with baking soda if they pick up a musty odor. Improper drying or storage of towels can frequently lead to musty odors. Before cleaning your towels, run a complete wash cycle with half a cup of baking soda.
